One of my confirmed favorite dramas this year is Ms. Incognito starring Jeon Yeo Been.
When it first came out, I didn’t watch it right away, in fact, I even doubted if it was worth watching. But when four episodes were already available, I decided to start, and wow… what an experience! From the very first episode, you’ll already be hooked and want to finish everything in one go. That’s how good it is. It's thrilling, exciting, and refreshingly unique.
In most recent K-dramas, the bodyguards are usually male, like in Red Swan or Tempest. But Ms. Incognito breaks that pattern because this time, the bodyguard is a woman named Yeong Ran, played brilliantly by Jeon Yeo Been.
Yeong Ran grew up in hardship, her mother was addicted to gambling, and her mother’s partner was abusive. She was raised by irresponsible parents who only caused her pain. Because of her mother’s endless loans made under Yeong Ran’s name, she became buried in debt. No matter how hard she worked, she couldn’t escape it. Her life was truly heartbreaking.
But an unexpected opportunity came her way, she was hired as a bodyguard by an old chairman of a large company who was already nearing death. The twist? The chairman only wanted revenge against his greedy stepchildren. His stepdaughter had even arranged the murder of his only biological child, Yerim.
To get his revenge, the chairman devised a clever plan: he would marry his bodyguard, transferring all his wealth to her upon his death, while also using her as bait to provoke his stepchildren into exposing their crimes publicly and bringing them to justice.
The story is beautifully written, not a single episode felt dull. Every scene is gripping, every twist unpredictable, and the pacing keeps you glued to the screen. This drama easily makes it to my “highly recommended” kdrama list for the year.
The characters in this drama are all outstanding too, no weak links at all. Every actor delivered such a solid performance!
At first, many of them seemed suspicious, like they were about to betray or harm our bodyguard Yeong Ran at any moment. But as the story unfolded, you couldn’t help but grow fond of them, especially Atty. Lee Don and Chingu Hyeji.
Aside from them, there are so many other characters who made this drama even more enjoyable and emotionally rich. That’s why I still feel a bit sad that it’s over now, no new episodes next week.
But the good news is, it had a happy ending! So if you haven’t seen Ms. Incognito yet, go watch it now! You won’t regret it.
