Why WENDY of Red Velvet Should Debut Solo?

Now that Wendy's back, fans are expecting for SM to somehow start with the production for her solo debut. They don't necessarily need to do choreographies if Wendy cannot do dances for the meantime, but at least plan out songs for her to sing. Plan out the things related to her SOLO debut.

SM ignoring fans' demand for a WOLO (Wendy Solo) is already running for so long and I think it's about time for them to make it happen.

It seems like SM is only feigning ignorance to this when WENDY's achievements are already shouting aloud to get some attention. Yup, our Wendy is collecting achievements even though she hasn't debuted as solo yet. Only Queens do such things, only with those real amazing talents can do that.

Let's face it, Wendy has one of the best voices and singing techniques out of all generations of Kpop and it'll be a waste if SM doesn't do anything with that.

Here let me list down reasons why Wendy should debut solo:

1. Wendy has a high profile singing background

To be able to collaborate with prominent artists like John Legend and Ricky Martin is already something to make Wendy a high-profile vocalist in Kpop. We all know how these two male artists possess voices that influenced the music world immensely and Wendy working successfully with them only means how world class her vocals are to be on the same level as them.

The success was already proven from the music they have released. Although they were not properly promoted by SM, these songs were still highly praised by all great music enthusiasts/listeners around the world. Check them out if you haven't.

Written In The Stars (2018)

In Kpop Industry, Wendy has collaborated with different artists such as Eric Nam, Baek A-Yeon, Yang Da-Il and Zico. As of writing, there are still a lot of artists that expresses their desire to work with Wendy such as Nive, Jooyoung and international artists such as Gallant and Pixie Lott.

Wendy's versatility is shown with each different collaborations/releases, be it within Red Velvet, solo activity or collaborations with other artists. She's not named as 'The Best Female Vocalist of This Generation" for nothing.

2. Wendy is the freaking MAIN VOCALIST of Red Velvet
Wendy being the MAIN VOCALIST of Red Velvet, which is crowned as 'The Best Idol Group Alive' by Billboard Critics, surely is the major contribution to her high profile singing experience.

A main vocalist is that singer that takes the most challenging part of the group's song. Wendy has proven that to a lot of Red Velvet songs, be it a title song or a B-side song. Her voice is powerful that could take the high and low notes, she supports the lead vocals and sub-vocals to make the song reach a profound quality. She's also in-charge of the beautiful and soulful adlibs that make their songs even colorful. Wendy is that amazing!

3. Wendy won the "Asia-Pacific Gold Song of The Year" (2019)

October 2019, Wendy brought home the award with her solo song OST called What If Love from the drama Touch Your Heart. The Annual Fresh Music Awards listed down the TOP 10 nominated songs for the award and among them were solo powerhouses like IU and Chen. Still, at the end, Wendy won among all of them without a solo debut.

I just can't imagine how many more awards she could gain after she debut as solo and releases a lot of songs in the future.

4. Wendy is the first SM Female artist to achieve 1 million monthly listeners on Spotify without solo debut (2020)
As of writing, Wendy only has 10 songs on Spotify and yet being able to garner a million monthly listeners (May - August) is already a huge achievement. At times like this you can believe that quality really is better than quantity. People just don't get tired of Wendy's voice. If that ain't a characteristic of an effective singer then I don't know what it is.

Just this month, and still without a solo debut, Wendy accumulated 250,000 followers on Spotify too.

5. Wendy has supportive and loyal fans

Wendy may not have the biggest fan base, but her fans know how to work hard. They all unite whenever there is a voting poll, defend her name when there are bashers, collect funds within fan clubs in order to prepare for her birthday each year and even for solo promotions in the future. Wendyluvs/Wendy Nation and even other Reveluvs support her to no ends.

Did you know that Wendy bar (Chinese fan club of Wendy), sent birthday gifts to Wendy amounting $45,000 in total. And just this October, they accumulated $16,000 in just 3 hours in preparation for Wendy's birthday next year. (Source: WendyBar)

Also when Wendy got featured for the magazines like Nylon and Beauty+, it was either the website crashed due to huge traffic or the magazine sold out fast. The reaction from the fans were really great! (See: Wendy Finally Got Her 2nd SOLO Magazine Photoshoot)

They also made Wendy 'The Finest Female Vocalist', winning with total votes of 131 million! (See: It's Decided! The Finest Vocalist Is Red Velvet's Wendy!)

With that power of Wendyluvs/Wendy Nation and Reveluvs, I am so looking forward on what will happen to Wolo. Hopefully, everything will be positive because Wendy only deserves the best in the world.

6. Wendy wanted to release a solo album

If the fans wanted it, for sure Wendy wanted it first. She had expressed her desire to release a solo album during her guesting on Kim Shin Young's Hope Song at Noon. Wendy even pleaded on-air to the one in-charge of music in SM to make it happen.

As a person who loves to sing, I just can't imagine how much Wendy wanted this as well.

It's understandable that there are a lot of factors to consider in debuting solo artists like the talent, the market, concept, budget, etc but I think with all the items listed above, they are enough to respond to some of those considerations positively. It's now up to the agency, SM Entertainment, to take action and allot time and budget for Wendy's solo.

Hoping to see Wendy solo album in the near future and to see that beautiful smile on Wendy's face after it all happen.
