Yook Sung Jae Switched Lives With Lee Jong Won In The Golden Spoon | Episodes 1 & 2 Recap

I recently watched the first 2 episodes out of the new on-going drama The Golden Spoon and wow I'm totally hooked with it after. Since I've watched several Kdramas that have those annoying parents who aren't competitive enough to provide well for their family, I've been thinking of the chances wherein a Kdrama would be open to a concept of children abandoning their parents and be rewarded... then this drama came out with that kind of scenario. Mostly. lol

So basically, Lee Seung Cheon (Yook Sung Jae) was born in a poor family where his father is an aspiring webtoon artist, his mother is a waitress while he and his sister do part time jobs. I really have nothing against the 2 female of the family but the father. Seeing him hiding from the goons collecting rent/money, that really irritated me the most. I mean, he's the head of the family after all and yet he stooped so low in making his family face the debt collectors instead of him. I really hate incompetent and coward parent/person like him. Being a manga or webtoon artist is a decent job, but at least he could do something else to pay the debt of his family and be courageous to stand up for them. All he did was hide behind them. Sigh. He seemed really kind person but reality check it's not enough to survive this cruel world especially when you have a family to feed.

Seung Cheon being pushed over the edge (friend died due to debt, family debt and coward father, bullied at school), he grew desperate in making lots of money. When Na Ju Hee (Jung Chae Yeon) asked what was his dream, he didn't hesitate to answer to become rich. The entire 2 episodes, mostly episode 1, the desperation oozing from Seung Cheon was really immense. I mean, to believe in such a myth of becoming rich after eating 3 meals at someone's house is already a proof of it what more is it to swap his parents to the other? It's obvious that Seung Cheon is not fond of his father but he surely love his mother so it's really desperation to get out of his messy situation that drove him to such decision.

So the mysterious old sales lady told Seung Cheon that there are 3 chances for him to come back to his parents and origins and that is for the 1st month, 1 year and 10 years. I think he can live as Hwang Tae Yong (Lee Jong Won) up to 1 year but 10 years would definitely be something else. With that long span of time, not only he will grow old but also his parents. Is he ok not being by his mother's side as she grows old? Is he really okay to live as someone else and continue to leech off someone else's money like a parasite? Instead of being a free man and stay a prisoner of someone else' life, him being smart and passionate, I think he could do so much better. Having hard earned money is the best money after all. He has so much potential.

I think if ever Seung Cheon discovers the real life of Hwang Tae Yong then he'll be able to understand that rich people aren't always happy with just money. Well.. some people are.. like Hwang Tae Yong's father Hwang Hyun Do (Choi Won Young). That one is greedy and evil as hell... how can he train his own like he's some kind of toy. That's awful.. not worth it to swap parents with. lol I think, when it comes to a family having love in the household... I'd still pick Seung Cheon's life than Hwang Tae Yong's. I can still persevere together with my original family after all. There are lots of chances in this world and I will take those.
