IU and Byeon Woo-seok Make Viewers’ Hearts Flutter with Their Sweet Moments in “Perfect Crown” Episode 8

Episode 8 of Perfect Crown had so many scenes that made my heart flutter. The early part genuinely made me emotional, Byeon Woo-seok’s acting was so good, especially when Prince I-an showed how terrified he was of losing another loved one, and the pure relief he felt when Hui-ju finally woke up.

But after that, the mood shifted, and the scenes of Hui-ju and Prince I-an getting closer completely sent me. Their chemistry is getting stronger every episode, and that lighthearted kiss? Ahhhh!

I swear, the butterflies they’re giving me are unreal. Hahaha!

This drama keeps getting better, I’d say. At first, I wasn’t really that into it because there were a lot of cringe moments that I couldn’t bear. But as I watch more episodes, the characters are slowly drawing me in.

Seong Hui-ju, for example, feels quite childish for her age, but that’s likely because she’s a spoiled rich daughter who gets what she wants or at least how she insists on having things through her own hard work and demands. Still, I’m slowly starting to feel sympathy for her as she reveals more of her true self and vulnerabilities, especially toward Grand Prince I-an. I like how she’s behaving now that she’s slowly falling for the Prince.

Now that I dive into this thought, I realize this is how I truly feel about most of the characters in this drama. Grand Prince I-an, for instance, was initially portrayed as stern and emotionless in the early episodes, but he’s now beginning to show more human emotions. Clearly, it’s not Byeon Woo-seok’s fault that some viewers find him boring—he’s simply acting out the character as written. That’s just how I-an is, shaped by all the unfortunate experiences he has had since childhood.

But now that he’s falling for Hui-ju, he finally has someone with whom he can share his emotions, love, worry, fear, strength, and the urge to fight for and protect her, among others.

There’s also Prime Minister Min. I just thought he had no real presence, as he was always following orders and came across as a bit nerdy. But later on, I started to enjoy how he raises his voice and finally makes his mark in the drama. Hahaha!

I wouldn’t even mind if he turns into a villain in the end, because only then would we get to see his full potential. Hahaha.

But there’s also one character I’ve liked from the very beginning, even though she’s the villain of the drama. I swear, Queen Yoon is so pretty! Haha! And I believe the actress who portrays her did an amazing job. Whenever she’s on screen, I can’t help but focus on her and what she has to say. Truly, she carries herself like the Queen Mother of the palace.

Now I’m reminded that it sometimes takes time for me to fully like a drama, especially for certain ones. At least for some of them. There are dramas I liked from the start, maybe because they’re romcoms, which make me feel less emotionally attached at first since they’re meant to be light, feel-good stories.

Yep, it’s not my go-to genre, but I still enjoy it when it’s entertaining, well-acted, well-written, and has a bit of angst. Hahaha!

Anyway, Perfect Crown hit its personal best viewership ratings yet, reaching 11.2% nationwide and 11.6% in the Seoul metropolitan area for Episode 8. Just four episodes left!
