Park Eun Seok Apologizes For Portrayal Of New Character In The Penthouse 3

I already see this coming ever since I spotted his new character Alex Lee in the 2nd episode of The Penthouse 3. However, I don't think Park Eun Seok is the only one at fault in here. First of all, the actor will only try to act based on the character that was given to him, meaning, the writer of the penthouse should not let Park Eun Seok take all the blame here.

The main issue here, if you're not aware, is that Park Eun Seok's portrayal of his new character Alex Lee was criticized by the general public for being 'racist'. Alex is an Asian American character that stereotyped African American Vernacular English with his portrayal with knotted hair, tattoos and strong accent. The irony here is that, Logan Lee himself is an Asian that lived in the US for quite some time so this is really awkward. With what's happening right in in the world, this matter is really a sensitive issue. Everyone can vividly see what went wrong with the production's characterization of Alex Lee. South Koreans are easily pissed off when something came across as inappropriate to their own culture so I hope they will gain this high sensitivity as respect for other culture as well. The production and the actors should work hand in hand, do proper research so they could point out what is appropriate and what's not.

Park Eun Seok already issued a statement via his Tiktok. I'd say it was well thought of:

Regarding the drama Penthouse character Alex, I'd like to let everyone know that none of the appearances that were driven by the character was falsly intentional to harm, mock, disrespect or discourage the African American community. I'd like to apologize to the people who took offense by the character's appearance. It was more admiration of the culture than mockery but now I'm aware that the approach was more CA. It was wrong attempt for character development.

Again I'd like to apologize to those who took offense, I as a minority myself should've known better. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to grow in awareness.

I hope you have the sincerity in your hearts to give the benefit of the doubt, that Alex's appearance was rather a character approach who admired the culture and wanted to "be" like, not intentionally portraying mockery.

How about you? What do you think about this?
